Bend, OR (April 16, 2012) – On May 20, the Athletic Club of Bend, Oregon, is partnering with Fast and Female to offer an energizing afternoon for both youth and adults.
Fast and Female, a program launched seven years ago by 2006 Olympic gold medallist Chandra Crawford – is inviting girls ages 9 to 19 for a day of dance, activities, and inspiration from 3 pm to 6 pm. Following successful events in Maine, Vermont and Alaska, this coming activity will mark Fast and Female’s inaugural visit to Oregon.
World Championship medalist and 2012 World Cup crystal globe winner Kikkan Randall will lead all activities. She hopes her excitement and passion within the sport will empower the girls to pursue their own dreams.
Crawford, who finished a strong season at the Haywood Ski Nationals in Quebec with a gold medal in the 30k distance race, will also be bringing her enthusiasm to the Bend revelry.
Other ambassadors include US female powerhouses Sadie Bjornsen, Susan Dunklee, Katrina Howe, Liz Stephen and Ida Sargent. Crawford’s fellow World Cup Canadian XC ski teammate, Alysson Marshall will also be joining the event as an inspiring ambassador. The US and Canada’s top cross country and biathlon athletes will be in the Bend region to take advantage of on-snow training at Mount Bachelor.
Redmond High School ski coach Tim Gibbons, is looking forward to having some star talent in town. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the athletes I coach to be inspired and motivated by successful World Cup athletes.”
While the youth dance their way through the afternoon, parents and coaches can participate in educational seminars. Experts will educate adults on subjects such as Physiological and Developmental Issues for Adolescent Females in Endurance Sports, Nutrition, and Developing High School Skiers as Endurance Athletes.
Jenny Anderson, Director of Fitness Operations at the Athletic Club of Bend said: “The Athletic Club of Bend is pleased to be hosting the Fast and Female XC Dryland event. The Athletic Club of Bend is committed to enriching lives everyday and believes strongly in developing human potential and that is exactly what the Fast and Female clinic will do for female athletes, parents and coaches in our community.”
Youth activity costs are $10, which includes a Fast and Female t-shirt, buff and snack. Parent and coach seminars are $20. Participants can secure a spot by signing up online or by visiting Fast & Female.
Fast and Female would like to thank Best Buy, Clarins, Buff, Karbon, and Cold-FX as well as Lululemon Athletica, LUNA Bars, LIT Glitter, SAUCE Headwear, Champion System and local sponsors Oregon Nordic Ski Foundation and the Athletic Club of Bend for their support in helping make this event happen.
