Lone Mountain Ranch’s 36th winter season is underway with 85km of Nordic ski trails, 30km of snowshoe trails, sleigh ride dinners, and their historic outdoor shop open. Newly hired executive chef Nick Steen is in the dining room, serving breakfast and lunch to the public daily, and dinner Monday-Saturday in the New Year.

“Food is the quickest way to the heart and I’ve brought my heart to Lone Mountain Ranch,” said Steen, a Montana native who has cooked professionally for the past 13 years. “I’m excited to present a comfortable and casual dining experience, featuring a dynamic menu using Montana products. Our superb local food will be yet another way to experience Montana to its fullest.”

The new menu features items like Pan Roasted Montana Rainbow Trout, Montana Elk Chop, and Montana Wagyu Cattle Company Ribeye. As the seasons allow, as much produce as possible will be sourced locally, helping to sustain regional farms and ranches.

New this year, the Ranch will offer Day Sleigh Rides Wednesday through Sunday each week. Guests meet the sleigh driver and team at the Outdoor Shop at noon, and then ride up a private trail to the North Fork cabin under the warmth of the afternoon sun and towering trees. Hot cocoa and fresh baked treats are served around a campfire at the cabin before returning to the Outdoor Shop around 1:30 p.m.

Also new this year, Lone Mountain Ranch will allow Fat bikes on the Town Center trails. These special bikes made for riding on snow will be permitted with a regular trail pass. Bikes must have four inch tires or wider and tires set at under ten pounds of pressure. The Ranch continues its offerings for dog owners as well with over 20km of dog friendly Nordic trails in the Town Center. The Ranch’s Outdoor Shop has everything a skier needs to get out on the trails with their four legged companion, from dog passes to skijoring equipment.

As new owners of Lone Mountain Ranch, Makar Properties will be investing in capital improvements as the ranch approaches the centennial of the original homestead in 2015.
