Jackson Ski Touring a Great Destination for Families
Looking to do something fun and active with the kids during the February school vacation week? Jackson Ski Touring offers affordable family fun with a variety of activities for children, terrain fit for beginners and hot chocolate at the Ellis River Cocoa Cabin as a way to top off a great day of skiing.
Conditions in Jackson have been excellent this winter with consistent snowfall and premium grooming. New skiers can take a private or group lesson with the Center’s experienced Ski School staff. Additional children’s weekend lessons and rental equipment have been added at the Ski Touring Center to meet increasing demands.
Nordic skiing in Jackson is affordable for the whole family. Children under 10 always ski free and pulk rentals are available in one or two seats for small children so they can be towed safely behind a skier. Rental packages start at just $16/day and passes are $10 for juniors and $21 for adults. Snowshoeing is another option, with 45km (28 miles) of designated trails. Rentals are $12/day and snowshoe only passes are just $10 for adults.
While out on the trails, children will enjoy the Center’s newly expanded Story Land Element Garden and the 300’ Anklebiter course, where they can earn a chocolate gold coin for their efforts. Nearby is the Ellis River Cocoa Cabin, where skiers can warm up and enjoy a hot chocolate, available during the holiday week and every weekend.
Hot chocolate is also offered at various stops along the trails, including the Riverwood Inn, Eagle Mountain Lodge and Christmas Farm Inn and Spa. Jackson Ski Touring Center’s vast trail network allows for trailside lodging and dining, perfect for families who may need a break before heading back out on the trails.
The first weekend of February vacation week kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 15 with the Dave Duncanson Groomed Trail Challenge and a Club Potluck Dinner at 6 p.m. Snowshoe Instructional Nature Tours will also be available throughout the weekend for $10 per person.
