A Multi Year Product Use Review of the Toko Coaches Pack

The Toko Coaches Pack is unlike any other backpack I have ever seen. Sure, there are a million technical packs out there that will carry your titanium cooking gear and one spare sock up to the top of whatever peak you may be bagging. They probably look like a large overstuffed cheeto turned upright, strapped to your back with vario-adjustable this and ergonometric that, gobs of unused loops and dangles and buckles hanging off of it.
This one is not like that. The Coaches Pack is a Spartan block of voluminous gear carrying ruggedness. You can put anything in this backpack that any human could forseeably need to carry; many pairs of ski boots, multiple changes of clothes, wax boxes, lunch coolers, camera bags, folding chairs, flats of beverages are all not a problem. My favorite use of this pack? Literally loading it up with a big stack of firewood to carry a few miles down for a beach fire. Sure, this all sounds great… but what really turns it from utility to genius is that it still fits in an airplane over-head compartment. I have hundreds of days on the road with this pack where it served as my only carry-on luggage; the way that it’s built, and its shape, allows for it to be condensed and slid into the cramped enclosure on airliners storage without issue. The effective padded waist belt easily folds out of the way, unlike most packs these days.
I don’t know how many days I have had this Toko pack full of dry clothes and food, sitting out by the side of the trail or in a stadium, or on the sidewalk waiting to be loaded into a transport bus, as the rain and snow and sleet pelted down on it; yet the contents remained dry and warm for when I needed them.
Somewhere down the line, when I’m no longer sponsored by Toko, and I have worn out my Coaches Pack from excessive and abusive use… I will be first in line to buy another one with my hard-earned money. It’s that good.
