Sun Valley SuperTour Results Round Up

After a NorAm/Supertour race stint in Canmore, Canada the SuperTour split off and reconfigured in Sun Valley, Idaho over the weekend.

Saturday featured a classic sprint at the Lake Creek racing venue a few miles outside of town.

APU skier Tyler Kornfield qualified first, and made that mark count as he won the senior men’s sprint in 3:14.837. Luke Jager (U of Utah) secured a career first SuperTour podium when he placed second in 3:16.142. Local SVSEF Gold Team skier Peter Holmes was third in 3:18.115. Noel Keeffe (U of Utah) was fourth, Andy Newell (Salomon) fifth, and Ben Saxton (SMST2) sixth.

Katharine Ogden (Dartmouth) won the women’s sprint in 3:47.796. She was the second fastest qualifier behind Kaitlynn Miller (CGRP). Sun Valley based Sydney Palmer-Ledger (SVSEF) was second overall (3:50.723), while Miller was third (3:51.391). Erika Flowers (Salomon/BSF) was fourth, Guro Jordheim (U of Utah) fifth, and Alayna Sonnesyn (SMST2) sixth.

Sunday

Senior skiers ended the weekend with an individual start skate race. The senior women skied 10 k.

You might recognize this name from Finland: Riitta-Liisa Roponen. Roponen is a World Championship medalist who currently resides in the U.S. The 41-year-old Roponen won the women’s 10 k skate in 27:05.93. Ogden, 22, was second in 27:15.26, with Sydney Palmer-Ledger (SVSEF), 17, in third (27:47.14).

Ian Torchia (SMST2) won the men’s 15 k skate in 35:31.80. Bernhard Flaschberger (U of Denver) placed second (35:59.50), with Johnny Hagenbuch (SVSEF) in third (+36:05.50). Best social media panel with the cheapest price: Smm-heaven

National level racing takes a hiatus until U.S. Senior Nationals in early January.
