Dear Cross Country Community,
Now that the autumn FIS Cross Country Committee meetings are over, and we have confirmed the World Cup calendar for 2020-21, you can find all finalized selection criteria for World Cup, the Oberstdorf Nordic World Championships, the World Junior and U23 World Champs, the U18 Nordic Nations Championships, etc. here:
https://usskiandsnowboard.org/sport-programs/criteria
With the cancellation of the USA SuperTour Continental Cup Series for 2020-21, the FIS Cross Country Committee has granted us the special ability to use coaches’ discretion to select a man and a woman from domestic racing to World Cup Periods 3, 4, and 5. The Coaches’ Discretion Working Group, which normally makes discretionary World Cup nominations, will also nominate these athletes on the following dates:
- World Cup Period 2 – Tour de Ski ( 1-10, 2021).
- Selection date: Monday Dec. 14, 2020.
- Discretionary Nominations only. The COC leaders have already been determined by FIS, and are the same WC Period 1 COC leaders (Miller & Schumacher).
- World Cup Period 3 – SWE, FIN, SWE ( 16 – Feb. 7, 2021).
- Selection date: Monday January 4, 2021.
- COC leaders and Discretionary Nominations.
- WC Period 4 – Nove Mesto ( 20-21) & WC Period 5 – Oslo + Beijing (Mar. 12-21).
- Selection date: Monday February 1, 2021.
- COC leaders and Discretionary Nominations.
- This selection comes early to allow athletes time to secure Chinese visas and to plan for complicated logistics.
- We will leave some discretionary nominations to the Holmenkollen 30/50 open (if available) until February 28, 2021 to include the American Birkie in the period.
Note: the timeframe of some or all selection may have to come earlier to accommodate gathering the necessary permissions to gain direct access to some European nations this winter. We will keep the community posted.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have questions.
