The Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club in Smithers British Columbia is seeking a paid head coach to lead our Athlete Development Program. The head coach will foster a motivated and capable team of volunteer coaches in delivering year-round training opportunities for U14 to U18 athletes and will support program and coach development for younger skiers during the fall and winter. We seek an individual with strong leadership and team building skills who can provide high quality skills development and training for a team of dedicated athletes, many of whom compete at regional, provincial, and national level races.
The Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club is a member-supported non-profit organization that operates the Bulkley Valley Nordic Centre, a two-story lodge, a wax cabin, biathlon range, and a Nordic ski facility with a network of 52 km of groomed trails including 5 km under lights. The club currently has over 1100 members with approximately 50 U12 to U18 athletes. The club is a vibrant centre of activity during winter months and supports a rapidly growing community of skiers.
Smithers is a remarkable northern gem established beside impressive 8494 ft tall Hudson Bay Mountain. It is a community with incredible recreational opportunities including back-country and lift skiing, kayaking, canoeing, world-class salmon and steelhead fishing, hunting, mountain biking, road biking, hiking, trail running, and more. The town has two ice rinks and two micro-breweries, and is considered a regional centre of music and culture. Situated on Highway 16 about halfway between Prince Rupert (the North Coast) and Prince George, Smithers has long been a key contributor to the provincial Nordic ski scene.
