The Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy (SBSTA) seeks an energetic and passionate individual to lead its Nordic programs.

SBSTA is a community dedicated to providing passionate skiers the opportunity to pursue athletic dreams, academic excellence, and personal growth while celebrating grit, grace, and courage.

Position Overview

In alignment with SBSTA’s mission, core values, vision, and strategic plan, the Nordic Program Director and Head Coach is responsible for the success of all SBSTA Nordic Programs. This includes but is not limited to establishing the philosophy, designing the structure, recruiting, leading, and evaluating the staff, and developing student-athletes through a comprehensive long-term-athlete-development. Emphasis will be placed on building a destination Nordic program, encouraging the participation of their families, fostering a Nordic community, and establishing a robust pipeline of Nordic participation for all SBSTA Nordic programs.

Professional Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Ability to oversee the business and programming plan of the Nordic programs and how it fits into the overall strategic plan of SBSTA.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting, paying close attention to details and actively managing timelines and deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to ensure consistency of programming and processes through proper written documentation. Organize, prioritize, and manage complex projects and processes.
  • Strong knowledge and experience, including the current and ongoing pursuit of professional development and credentials related to Nordic skiing and competitive race programming and training.
  • Strong team player with proven leadership skills, including effectively delegating, managing staff and volunteers, and working with the entire SBSTA staff, community partners, and SBC staff.
  • Possesses excellent relationship and communication skills to work closely with coaches, parents, student-athletes, admissions candidates, and community partners.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and proficiency in utilizing SBSTA’s established platforms (i.e., Google Drive).
  • Manage personal stress effectively and support staff in managing their stress.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and perform manual labor and coaching duties on steep, uneven, mountain-like terrain and often in inclement weather.
  • Two years of directly related experience with increasing responsibility, Bachelor’s degree, Level 100 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Nordic coach

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of comprehensive, age-appropriate programming for all SBSTA Nordic
  • Develop and implement a consistent, documented Nordic
  • Manage all aspects of SBA Nordic training, competition, and periodization. Help coordinate and oversee all athlete management plans.
  • Design, implement, and oversee Nordic coach training, professional development, and mentoring
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to significantly increase SBST Nordic participation.
  • Integrate all necessary domains of athlete development (physical, technical, tactical, mental, social, and equipment management).
  • Plan for and implement successful early and late-season operations with SBC.
  • Recruit, interview, foster, manage, and retain mission-appropriate student-athletes.
  • Explore, develop, and implement year-round training opportunities and operations.
  • Oversee and coordinate consistent and regular athlete evaluation processes.
  • Oversee and coordinate consistent and regular communication and education with Nordic team parents.
  • Maintain a strong presence on-trail as an active Nordic coach, and supporting coaches and athletes.
  • Plan for and implement successful early and late-season operations with SBC.
  • Ensure all venues are managed for optimal Nordic training and competition
  • Calendaring and Execution
  • Participate in Divisional, Regional, and National event calendaring.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with Royal Gorge and other resorts.
  • Help with the execution of SBSTA Nordic events.
