Brian Chimileski of Golden, Colorado and Sarah Konrad (Madshus) of Laramie, Wyoming won the 2008-09 Colorado Cup sponsored by Clif Bar, Swix, and Boulder Nordic Sport. Both skiers skied in all five events and their consistency paid off as they each came out ahead of the region’s elite talent like, for example, Josh Smullin (Rossignol) who scored well but, in Smullin’s case, skied only two of the five races.
The Colorado Cup works in conjunction with events and Nordic ski areas across the Colorado region and benefits Rocky Mountian Nordic’s (501c3) junior skier programs. This season’s Colorado Cup operated on a skeleton staff of volunteers and, as spokesperson Matt Muir stated, “this season’s administration was not sustainable, volunteers were overburdened and racers got minimal value. But we are grateful to our sponsors Clif Bar, Swix, and Boulder Nordic Sport who all hung in there with us.”
