Job Opportunity: FXC Assistant Coach

Fairbanks Cross Country (FXC), the year-round junior training and racing program of the Nordic Ski Club Fairbanks is seeking an assistant coach to work as part of a team of professional and volunteer coaches dedicated to helping local junior skiers get the most out of their skiing experience.

FXC is a three year-old program made up of approximately 30 J3-OJ athletes.  The athletes are divided into two training groups, the Devo Team for Middle School age athletes and the Comp Team for those in High School.  Athletes compete in Fairbanks’ Town Race Series, Alaska’s Besh Cup qualifying series, high school races, JOs, Arctic Winter Games, Senior Nationals, as well as various other races around Alaska.

The primary role of the assistant coach is to help at races and regular training sessions held throughout the year for Devo and Comp Team athletes.  In addition, the assistant coach would also be expected to help with summer and winter training camps as well as other trips throughout the year, fundraisers, various aspects of program management and administration, and other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate would have a college degree, ski racing experience at the collegiate level or higher, as well as time spent coaching or working with youth.

The job is part-time, year-round and salary is $15-20,000 annually.  Potential for further employment exists within the local ski community, as well as for employment and education within the broader Fairbanks community.

Fairbanks offers 6.5-7 months of on-snow training (beginning October 3 this year) two well-developed ski trail systems with great grooming , a full race calendar, great dryland training opportunities particularly for activities on trails, ready access to some of the most incredible wilderness in North America, and a strong and supportive local ski community.
