Dear Cross Country Community,
2022-23 U.S. Ski Team Selection Criterion
Please find the selection criterion for the 2022-2023 U.S. Ski Team here:
Due to the pandemic, the FIS has decided to calculate FIS points lists this coming season that include performances dating back to July of 2019. Because these lists will include 3 seasons of an athlete’s races by the time we get to the Spring of 2022, and those races may not be representative of an athlete’s current performance capabilities, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Competition Services Department and the Cross Country Staff will run its own single-season FIS points list for the 21-22 season this coming spring, and it will be used for the sole purpose of identifying athletes’ World Rank to reflect the original intent of this 2022-23 U.S. Ski Team selection criterion.
2021-22 World Cup Selection Criterion
Now that the 21-22 World Cup calendar and SuperTour calendar are finalized, you can find the 2021-22 World Cup Selection Criterion here:

2021 World Cup Period 1 Nominations
We are pleased to announce the USA Cross Country Team for World Cup Period 1 of the 2021-22 season. Given that we had no national race calendar in 2020-21, no SuperTour or U.S. National Championships, and very few opportunities for head-to-hear racing, the discretionary selections were incredibly difficult for the Working Group. This challenge was compounded by the lack of available FIS racing in some regions, Covid travel restrictions, fewer international competition opportunities (no available Europa Cup, etc.), and a non-representative FIS points list that stretched back two seasons. As a Working Group, we want the community to know that the discretionary decisions made here were not made without hours of considerable debate and anxiety about how to fairly select athletes. There is no getting away from the crude subjectivity of these selections, and all we can say is that we’ve done our absolute best under challenging circumstances. We are sincerely relieved to be returning to head-to-head racing on the SuperTour this coming season.
