Position: Director of Facilities, Grooming and Trails
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Compensation: Salary of $60,000-$75,000 per year, with possibility of housing
Crosscut Mountain Sports Center is a year-round mountain hub providing outstanding Nordic skiing, biathlon, mountain biking, hiking and outdoor education. It offers world-class sports training and access to the rejuvenating power of nature for all ages, abilities, identities, and backgrounds. Crosscut has two spectacular locations, with its main Bridger Canyon center just 17 miles north of the thriving mountain town of Bozeman, Montana. Crosscut’s new Taylor Fork location is just a few short miles away from Big Sky and our nation’s first national park, Yellowstone.
Building on transformative recent successes, Crosscut Mountain Sports Center seeks a professional and experienced Director of Facilities, Grooming and Trails to adhere to the hard-earned reputation of commitment to excellence. Known for keeping it’s 45km of trails exceptionally groomed and maintained and building a family friendly network of mountain bike trails, Crosscut is a year-round facility that is growing and playing a pivotal role in the Bozeman community.
The ideal candidate will be a leader and team player, and enjoy keeping a fleet of snowcats, snowmobiles, excavator, and other equipment maintained, as well as the buildings and other facilities in good working condition. Serve as an important member of the senior management team in planning for capital expansion, including a new lodge that will be built in 2023/2024. Crosscut is a mountain hub for the community including thriving youth and adult biathlon programs, community races and events, rapidly growing youth mountain biking programs and Nordic skiers and mountain bikers. Crosscut also welcomes close to 3,000 school kids to the property every year to learn how to cross-country ski and discover Indigenous people’s history and ecology. We are fortunate to be the training center for the U.S. Paralympic Nordic team and U.S. Biathlon JR National team.
Job Description:
General
- Develop and maintain operational budget for facilities, grooming and trail maintenance department
- Work closely with Chief Executive Officer to prioritize tasks and make major purchasing decisions and operational efficiency
- Assist as needed with special events grooming, set-up, and tear down
- Be available to respond to emergency situations involving guests, personnel, facilities, or grooming equipment
Winter
- Oversee and participate in all aspects of the daily snow grooming of winter ski trails
- Maintain the mechanical integrity of the groomer equipment
- Schedule and coordinate groomer maintenance to be carried out by independent contractors and equipment companies
- Supervise and assist in the snowmobile-grooming program
- Collaborate with CMSC employees, ambassadors, volunteers, and board members to ensure good customer relations and best use of resources
Summer
- Supervise summer trail crew and volunteers
- Oversee continued implementation of fire safety and forest health plan
- Oversee continued implementation of noxious weed eradication program
- Supervise and participate in maintenance of existing trail system
- Lead trail development and planning to insure efficient design and construction of both summer and winter trail system
- Help build new trails for skiing, biking, hiking, and running
- Maintain equipment used in summer trail program including chainsaws, trimmers, and heavy to medium equipment
