Kris Freeman won the Cross-Country part of the recent Ski To Sea race in a dominating way. We got a chance to ask him some questions about his training and goals. Some interesting new training elements and methods are a part of his “new” routine.
 to my routine. I have also begun to do a single stick distance workout once a week. The workout consists of propelling myself forward with my arms in a classic arm swing motion while not using my legs at all. I have already built up to this workout to 1.5 hours at a quick pace. I will begin to do less strength and more intensity in July. </p>
<p><B>Was this the first time you skied the Ski To Sea race and why did you travel that far to do a short on snow race at the start of the summer? </B><br />
– Yes, Justin Wadsworth invited me to compete on his team and Baron Heating offered to pay my expenses for the trip. I found a very direct flight and I figured getting on snow for a fast workout would be fun. I skied a distance workout on the course the day before the race and skied as long as I could on the course after the race was finished.</p>
<p><B>How did you feel about the race and you performance? </B><br />
– I thought I raced well. I was able to break away right from the gun and extend the lead the whole time. I have been limiting my intensity this spring to accommodate for the increase in my strength training. I had only done three level 3 sets of intervals this year before the race. I was pleased with how strong I felt. When and what is your next race or time-trial? In two weeks I will run a 3000m time-trail on a track. At the end of the month I plan to race a local 5k (because they give cash to the winner).</p>
<p><B>Which race or races are your big goal(s) this season? </B><br />
– My primary goal is to take a medal in the pursuit at World Championships. My secondary goal is to take a podium position in any other World Championship or World cup event.</p>
<p><B>The US team has decided to do a September training camp in San Diego, California. That sounds exciting, have you ever tried surfing and are you going to test the waves (one way or another) while in San Diego? </B><br />
– I am excited to go to San Diego and I intend to try surfing.</p>
