The last of three SuperTour races held this week at the Telemark Resort in Cable, Wisconsin, resulted in an impressive show of strength, speed, and team depth from the Northern Michigan University ski team. NMU racer Lindsey Weier sped clear of Rossignol's Brooke Baughman, winning the mass-start freestyle 10km race by less than 3 seconds.
Weier's NMU teammates were involved in a four-way sprint with Baughman, and swept 3rd, 4th, and 5th places which gave the college 4 out of the top 5 spots. Tami Kochen (3rd) and Morgan Smyth (4th) both finished within one second of Baughman, and National Sprint Champion Lindsay Williams ended up fifth, 1.1 seconds behind Smyth.
The SuperTour now moves on to downtown Minneapolis, MN for a freestyle sprint race and the popular City of Lakes Loppet, a 35km freestyle mass-start. The City of Lakes Loppet, also part of the new FIS North America Marathon Cup this year, is a point-to-point race which finishes inside the city on Hennepin Avenue. These will be the last SuperTour races prior to the Colorado International Spring Series in late March and early April. The exciting City of Lakes downtown events will also see the crowning of the men's and women's SuperTour sprint champions.
