Carl Swenson won the overall title at Finland's Lapponia Ski Week this past week. The Lapponia Ski Week is part of the Euroloppet series.
Swenson won the opening Keimiön Kiekerö 60K race last Monday. He got edged out by one second in Wednesday's Himmelriikin Hiihto 50 km to finish second. In Friday's Karra Huikonen 80 km he again took second, this time three seconds back. His overall time for the three races was good enough to win the overall by 13 seconds after a total of 190 kilometers.
The race website says:
“There are a couple of hundred kilometres of ski tracks in the beautiful landscape. The week is about having a good time in brisk company. Everybody gains a valuable medal and diploma. After skiing you can enjoy a sauna, swimming and dancing. There is no hurry at the service points, you can have a snack and some soup, wax your skis. During the days between skiing, you can for example watch the reindeer race. The main thing is to enjoy — not to win.”
We bet Swenson, who is retiring from ski racing this spring, managed to do both.
