Pacing, pacing,pacing

Yesterday we decided to have a classic time trial on a 1km loop. The loop went up for 400 meters (about 90 seconds) and then rolled down and around with a combination of double pole and downhill step turns. Our team has been training well, but had only raced once in a 20 day period and we thought that they needed to learn a bit more about pacing themselves. We were right. Most (but not all) of the kids started too fast and then paid the price. The loop was tough because there was very little true recovery, but lots of race courses are like that.br /It was a great workout and we plan to do a similar one skating next week. It will be interesting to see how they adapt and whether they feel better AND go faster if they take it out a little more conservatively.br /Here are their lap times and their total times:br /br /Gage 3:18 3:45 3:49 3:57 3:42 18:31br /Tyler 3:23 3:35 3:28 3:28 3:21 17:15 br /Cambria 3:29 3:45 3:48 3:50 3:47 18:39br /Hallie 3:43 3:49 3:57 4:01 3:56 19:29br /Brooke 3:45 4:12 4:12 4:11 4:03 20:23br /Rachel 3:23 3:44 3:47 3:55 3:46 18:35br /Mac 3:07 3:33 3:37 3:38 3:33 17:28br /Heather 3:22 3:43 3:52 3:55 3:37 18:29br /Izzy C 3:17 3:34 3:46 3:44 3:39 18:00br /J.
