Tearful after winning

Marit Bjœrgen finished as she started the season and won Saturday’s World Cup pursuit in Falun. And then it was hard to hold back the tears. Therese Johaug pushed the pace that broke up the lead-pack and could celebrate with a 3rd place.

Marit Bjœrgen showed a lot more energy than what we have seen the last couple months. And the ”energy bunny,” Therese Johaug did a great job in pushing the pace.

Thirteen (13) racers were together in the lead-pack in the transition area after the classic portion of the race. But that was quickly broken up.

Katerina Neumannova, Bjorgen, and Johaug cranked up the pace up the ”killerhill”. And no one was with these three skiers on top of the 700 meter long uphill. It was now set for a long stadium sprint for the victory.

Johaug tried first, but it wasn’t good enough against the more experienced competitors. When Bjorgen made her move no one could follow.

Bjœrgen captured with this her second World Cup victory of the season and secured second place in the overall World Cup. It was a realieved Bjorgun in the finish area after the race.

– This was incredibly great and wonderful, said Bjorgun after the race.

There were plenty of tears, but this time from joy. She was finally able to strike back toward all the critics this season, where almost nothing has been good enough for some.

That’s promising ahead of next season. A Marit Bjorgen in attack position with a good experience in the last World Cup race!
