15 athletes participated in the first Mt. Sunapee Invitational up Mt. Sunapee in New Hampshire. Top ranked U.S. distance skier and New Hampshire native Kris Freeman performs the time trial on a regualr basis throughout the summer as a fitness benchmark. This month, the New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) teamed with the Cambridge Sports Union (CSU) to open the event to the public. The course is a challenging 3.1 mile climb to the summit of Mt. Sunapee. Kris' older brother, and Olympic veteran, Justin Freeman, won the event in a time of 21:29, 25 seconds ahead of Kris. Kris reported an off-day, with his time of 21:54 a full 46 seconds slower than his result in his June test. Peter Hult of Harvard, MA finished third in the men's division. J2 Blair Robinson paced the women's field, with CSU teammate Hilary Rich and Putney's Heidi Henkel rounding out the top three.
