Madawaska Preview

Sverre CaldwellMarch 26, 2010

It is clear and cold in Madawaska. They got 5″ of snow on Wednesday, but yesterday was warm and sunny so things got wet. Now temps are in the teens and expected to top out in the low 20’s. The racing this afternoon should be fast and furious! br /Men have their mass start race at 3:30 and women start at 5. There are special cash and time bonuses at 1 km, 3km and 6 km for the women with an additional bonus at 9 km for men, The bonuses are significant (15 seconds for 1st, 10 seconds for 2nd, 5 secondds for third at each point) and they should make for some real battles. The big question is whether the pack will sprint and regroup or if the leaders will just keep hammering. Regardless, with 100 strong men and 80 women on fast tracks, we are bound to have some excitment.br /After an am jog, we are hanging out in our motel doing homework and resting up this morning. Things will quickly get busy. We have the late afternoon classic race followed by a classic sprint tomorrow morning so the wax crews will have their work cut out for them.br /We are sharing a wax tent with the USST. It is kind of like old home day because 2 of the 4 skiers that they are waxing are SMS alums as is coach Matt Whitcomb :)br /We’ll try to get pictures and a report up this evening.div class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4680416899705879324-6232399471328907622?l=smsxc.blogspot.com’ alt=” //div
