New Gloucester, ME – More than seventy golfers enjoyed an 18-hole tour of the Falmouth Country Club on Monday while raising funds to support the US Biathlon Team, as well as NENSA (New England Nordic Ski Association).

Golfers at this third annual US Biathlon Golf Fundraiser enjoyed an 18-hole scramble competition on a breezy, but otherwise spectacular early fall day.

Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) and Walt Shepard (Brunswick, ME) represented the US Biathlon Team. Bailey teamed up with US Biathlon Chairman Larry Pugh, USBA Athlete Representative Chad Salmela, and Owen Wells of the Libra Foundation to take third in the net score category. The team of Dana Bullen, Mike Roy, Ed Ervin, and USBA Board member Bill Alfond took top honors in that category.

The top team on the links in the gross score category included (ex-professional golfer) Mary Ann Levins, her daughter (and promising biathlete) Keely Levins, Roger Hill, and USBA Executive Director Max Cobb. Cobb deferred credit for the team’s success to the Levin’s family. “It was great fun out there today, but Marianne and Keely deserve most of the credit. Marianne had a big eagle on a par four hole while Keely, who is a top high golfer in Vermont, added some excellent shots which helped our score.”

Following the round of golf, the players and numerous guests traded stories about their day, before the awards, dinner, and silent auction. The full day of activities earned the US Biathlon Team over $30,000.

Cobb was more than pleased with the results of this fundraising event for the US Biathlon Team. “Our third annual golf tournament was a huge success. We saw many new people coming out to support our team, which is very encouraging for us. This event continues to provide an important source of revenue for our program. The funds we raised will really help us throughout our competition season. On behalf of our athletes and staff, I would like to thank everyone who supported and helped make the golf tournament a success once again.”
