Gunde Svan was loyal to Kneissl during all his years as an elite skier. But Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten is now revealing that most of his big victories, that also included two Olympic and five World Championship gold’s, were captured on Fischer skis. Fischer delivered 200 pair of skis to Kneissl which were clearly better that what Kneissl were able to produce.
– It was bitter to see this and at the same time know that he was racing on our skis even it looked like he was on the competitions skis, says former Fischer racedirector Gerhard Taller to Aftenposten.
The reason Fischer approved of this was that they had unknowingly used a product name belonging to Kneissl. A lawyer for Kneissl had demanded compensation and the case was settled with Fischer making 200 pair of Skis for Kneissl with Kneissl’s logo on.
Kneissl went however later on bankrupt, but is making an effort to market cross country skis again this winter. Their highest profile skier is — Johann Muhlegg!
