US World Junior Team Announced

The U.S. Ski team named the World Junior Championships team at the US National banquet in Rumford, Maine on Thursday night. A team of six boys and six girls will be traveling to Solleftea, Sweden for the World Junior Championships from Feb 4-9.

Named to the boys team were: Bryan Cook of Rhinelander, WI; Andy Newell, Stratton Mt.; Leif Zimmermann, Bozeman, MT; Ryan Foster, Burlington, VT, Glenn Randall; Grand Junction, CO, and Steve Scott, St. Paul,MN

Newell is one of the country's best sprinters and is also a top junior in all events. Zimmerman had an eighth place finish in the Nationals 10K Freestyle. Foster had three top 30 finishes this week. Steve Scott had an impressive 12th place in the sprint. Randall skied to a 21st place finish in the opening 30K race. Note all place listings are overall, including all senior racers.

The girls team will be: Lindsey Weier, Mahtomedi,MN; Kristina Trygstadd-Saari, Bozeman,MT; Alison Crocker, Hanover,NH; Katie Ronsse; Anchorage, AK; Lindsay Williams, Marquette, MI; and Carina Hamel, Burke Mt, VT.

Weier, a 2002 Olympian, leads the women's team with her three top ten finishes overall in this week's Nationals races, including being the second American in the 5K classic. Trygstad-Saari was the winner of a NorAm Continental Cup 15K race earlier this year. Alison Crocker had two top ten finishes this week in classic races. Williams secured her spot on the team with a 6th place finish in the sprint event. Hamel and Ronsse also skied well this week to secure their berths on the team.
