Keskinada Loppet sets a new record with 3428 hardy skiers who braved minus 25 (celcius) below zero temperatures during the various 50 K, 25 K, 10 K, and 2 K freestyle races run Sunday in Gatineau Park.

The flagship 50 K Hilton Lac-Leamy race attracted top international skiers from about 20 countries. In the women’s category, the gold was won by Lara Peyrot of Italy, the current world leader in the FIS MARATHON CUP, in a time of 2:12:59. She also won the race with a time of 2 hours 12 minutes and 59 seconds. In the men’s category, the podium was dominated by the Italians who captured the first four places. The winner was Gianantonio Zanatel in a time of 1:52:52. Best Canadian times were respectively realized by Sheila Kealy of Ottawa (fourth in a time of 2:25:25) and Charles Nadeau of Cap Rouge (seventh in a time of 1:58:26). Top Americans were Adam Swank (16th overall) and Sandy Tetreault (5th). A total of 32 000 $ in prizes money was shared by the winners.

Organizers of the Keskinada wish to thank the 450 volunteers who did a wonderful job despite the extreme cold.
