The Minnesota Finlandia Board of Directors announced tonight that the 2003 Finlandia is officially cancelled due to lack of snow. The members of the board reviewed the limited course options this weekend. We decided that without a storm on the horizon it would only be fair to let skiers know that we don©ˆt have what we need to host a safe, quality event. This year's announcement is particularly frustrating because the Minn Finn promised to showcase some of the best ski racers in the country, with a large field of factory team athletes from Subaru, Rossignol, Alpina, and Atomic vying for first place axe trophies. The board wanted to give racers the time they need to change their travel plans, as many had scheduled to arrive mid week from the East coast, Colorado, Montana, and Alaska. It was the heart breaker, last chance snowstorm that swung south of us that really did a number on us emotionally, we just realized that the clock had been run out. Best wishes go out to the other events in the region. Thanks to our sponsors and volunteers, and the adventurous spirit of the skiers that makes all the effort worthwhile. See you on the start line in 2004 for a full course race with all the trimmings !Â
One additional note: Registrations received this year will be passed forward to the 2004 Finlandia. Voucher tickets will be mailed to pre-registered racers worth the full value of next year's race entry fee.
