Beckie Scott To Get Medal Upgrade at Special Ceremony

Calgary — Beckie Scott will turn in her Olympic bronze medal for either a silver or gold one at a special ceremony, free to the public, at Canada Olympic Park on Oct. 21.

Scott actually mailed the Bronze Medal back in August, but has not yet received her new medal because the color upgrade is still not yet known.

Scott was guaranteed an upgrade of at least one spot in the summer when international ski officials and Olympic executives declared Russian Larissa Lazutina, who had finished ahead of Scott in the five-kilometre pursuit at the Salt Lake Olympics in 2002, had not been eligible for the Winter Games because of a belatedly revealed doping infraction.

A possible upgrade to the gold medal will depend on a case involving Olga Danilova which is now before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Canadian and Norwegian Officials are arguing that Danilova and Johan Muehlegg should be stripped of all of their Olympic medals because of positive tests after the final races of the games.
