CABLE, Wis. (Jan. 25) – Rebecca Dussault (Gunnison, CO), who won 10 SuperTour races in the last six weeks, and Ivan Babikov of Canada closed the inaugural Cross Country SuperTour over the weekend by capturing both ends of the chilly racing doubleheader at Telemark resort.
second at 16:58.1. Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, AK) – the winner of the last sprint Wednesday – was third, another five seconds back. The start of Saturday's races was delayed because of zero-degree cold but everyone finally raced in single-digit weather. Sunday, Dussault pounded a 10K classic course at Telemark to win in 36:24.1. Melissa Oram (Taberg, NY) – like Smith, she's a member of the U.S. Development Team – was runnerup in 37:07.9 with Canadian Madeleine Williams third (37:09.7).

On the men's side Saturday, Babikov – who emigrated from Russia to Canada – cruised to the two-lap, 10K FR victory in 27:38.2. Chris Cook (Rhinelander, WI), another Development Team athlete, was second (28:27.6) with Canadian Gordon Jewett third in 28:38.3. In a 15k classic Sunday, Babikov skied off to victory in 45:43.5 with men's overall champion Dave Chamberlain (Bethel, ME) second in 46:09.38 and Cook third in 46:22.36.

As SuperTour champsions, Chamberlain, who has raced at the last two World Championships, and Dussault – a member of the 1999 World Championships Team before getting married and having a baby – will race in the last four World Cup sites of the season. They'll compete in a sprint Feb. 26 at Drammen, Norway, catch the renowned Holmenkollen Skifestival in Oslo, the Finnish Ski Games in Lahti and World Cup Finals in Pregalato, Italy.

“They've made some good money on the SuperTour, and Dave and Rebecca could get up to seven World Cup starts,” said U.S. Nordic Director Luke Bodensteiner. “We wanted the SuperTour to give racers a place to race, to generate interest in cross country ski racing, and it's been exactly what we wanted. Good sites, good racing, tremendous interest…

“The organizers have done a tremendous job running high quality races and helping create ongoing interest in the SuperTour and our athletes, both here at home and when they're overseas. The organizers have been a cornerstone to the success of the SuperTour,” Bodensteiner said.

Dussault won four straight races at Soldier Hollow, Utah, before Christmas, added two wins in Fort Kent, Maine -Â on the eve of the Chevrolet U.S. Cross Country Championships, two races at the U.S. championships and the final pair at Telemark. Chamberlain – who won the final sprint race of the schedule Wednesday – had four wins.
