This was the second race in the FIS Marathon World Cup and the first of the season held in classic technique. The competition was the very best and included the two-time Swedish Vasaloppet winner Oscar Svard and Czech marathon specialist Stanislav Rezak. It all cam down to an exciting finish where Aukland edged both Svard and Rezak at the finish line.
Aukland comments:

‘I’m very excited about this victory and happy that my strategy worked. I’m often starting hard and in the lead in these races from the start. Today I was at the tail end of the lead group most of the time”
