– It’s not about large amounts of money, but the principal is important, says Mathias Fredriksson to the Swedish newspaper Sport Expressen.

The brothers cancelled their contracts with the Swedish federation in April. The contract regulates the relationship between the federation and the skiers regarding among others training stipends and obligations towards the federation’s sponsors.

– The training stipend was reduced without the federation having any real reasons for this and that felt strange. It was for that reason natural for us to react, says Mathias to the Swedish newspaper.

The brothers are saying that they want to be a part of the Swedish team, but have chosen to be on their own until the case is resolved and they have agreed upon a new contract.

The conflict is based upon a reduction of the skiers training stipends from 60,000 Swedish Crowns (roughly US $8000) to 30,000 (US $4000). The Frederiksson-brothers also want to have the rights to sell advertising space on their race suits since the Swedish Federation was not able to sell all available spots last season.
