Norwegian newspaper VG reports:
Johann Muehlegg’s Olympic gold medals from the double pursuit and the 30-kilometer skate race in Salt Lake City are now finally in the hands of the Olympic administration in Lausanne, Switzerland, more than two years after the doping racer wrongly received the medals in Salt Lake City.

– We can confirm that the medals were received within the April 30 deadline and that we can now start the process of handing the right medals to the right skiers, explains Emanuelle Moreau at the IOC information department.

– But she hurryingly adds: – We have still not received the medals from Danilova and Lazutina. The Russians have confirmed that they don’t have anything else to add in this matter and that the medals are on the way to Switzerland, without us knowing exactly when they will arrive. We are counting on that it’s a matter of just a few days, and then it won’t take long before they are forwarded, explains Moreau.
Nice Message

– We are happy that there have been no more protests and additional delays, and hope its possible to find an appropriate occasion to hand out the right medals to Alsgaard, Estil and Skjeldal, says Norwegian IOC member Gerhard Heiberg.

Frode Estil said this winter that he would prefer to have the new gold medal they had to make since he tied with Alsgaad for the gold. Thomas Alsgaard has said the he could care less and will therefore probably get the medal that has been in Muehlegg’s position for two years.

– Absolutely a nice message and I’m looking forward to get the gold, says Frode Estil

Have you been asked to return the silver medal?

– Be quiet and don’t tell anyone. It would be fun to have both. But I will probably be contacted soon and I’m going to be happy with only one medal as long as it’s gold, is the promise from Estil who won two World Cup races last season.

Canadian Beckie Scott will as a result of this also receive her gold medal for winning the women’s double pursuit race at the 2002 Olympics, sometime this summer.
