Norwegian Aukland won the 2004 Vasaloppet, but the Swedes are looking to improve their marathon cup standings this weekend and to take back the Vasaloopet crown.

Oskar Svard in seventh place overall after three out of eight FIS marathon cup races is the top Swede. Mattias Svahn is saying that it’s time to show a little Vasaloppet shape.
This race usually suits the Swedes well.

– I have placed third here three times and I’m of course shooting for another podium finish, says Svahn who is just now feeling 100% healthy after battling a nasty cold.

– I was sick for two weeks before Marcialonga, but raced and placed 15th. That was better than I had hoped for. I believe that I should be able to stay with the leaders on Sunday. The course profile is flat and consists of lots of double poling and that’s exactly how I like it, says Svahn.

The conditions are great with one meter of snow and temperatures right below 30 Fahrenheit.
All the top skiers in the cup is on the starting line including Zanetel, Rezac and Fauner
