CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH WEEKEND
Royal Gorge, March 19 and 20, 2005
One of Far West Nordic's largest fund-raisers for its Junior Cross Country Skiing programs occurs this weekend at the USSA 50 km. National Championship
CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Royal Gorge Cross Country ski area. With 4 different events on Sunday, there is a distance suitable for any cross country ski racer. Royal Gorge donates all proceeds to the Far West for this event. Whether you're a serious cross country ski competitor, citizen racer, junior skier, or spectator, this fun-filled weekend has
something for everyone.
Saturday, March 19th (the day before the Gold/Silver/Bronze/Junior Rush)is filled throughout the day with fun events for Junior Competitors. You can watch the area's younger racers vie for top spot in either the low-key GOLD NUGGETS Kids' Race at 10:30 am, or see the older kids perform in the “jumps & bumps” Fischer SUPERCROSS event, a spectator-friendly sprint course viewable from the deck at Royal Gorge. Sunday's events are the highlight of the weekend, with exciting races for any level of skier, whether you're a top racer or a casual ski tourer.
Top billing goes to the 50 kilometer GOLD RUSH, this year being the 50K United States Ski Association Men's and Women's NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP event and is also a USSA Super Tour and FIS North America Marathon Cup race. Top skiers from across the country will converge on the trails at Royal Gorge to decide who is the fastest skier in the land.
This race is also the culmination of the multi-event AMERICAN SKI MARATHON SERIES of long distance competitions from around the country, with members of ski industry factory teams duking it out for the overall individual and team titles.
Great competition is also found in the shorter variety of races, including the 30 km. SILVER RUSH, 15 km. BRONZE RUSH, or the 6 km. JUNIOR RUSH for racers 15 and under. Whether you're a serious racer, or want to add another fun competitive event to your ski season, there is a distance to suit your fancy. Come race or watch this exciting competition, where all the proceeds go to the local Junior Development Programs.
