Elin Nilsen won the women’s division for the twelfth time and biathlon skier Lars Berger won the men’s title in the 38-kilometer long freestyle technique Norwegian Skarverennet, held under great conditions on Saturday.
Elin Nilsen retired from the National team years ago, but she continues to be unbeatable in Skarverennet. She won by almost three minutes in a new course record on Saturday. This was Nielsen’s 12th victory. She has said she will continue to race until she is beaten.
– I used the old strategy that calls for racing hard from the gun goes off and it hurt from start to finish. It was beautiful weather and fantastic conditions, but it’s hard to enjoy it when you are in pain the whole way, said Nilsen.
She was almost three minutes ahead of Natalie Santer of Italy, and beat the old record by about one minute.
– I thought that was good and is a little impressed over myself. I thought it would be closer, said Elin Nilsen.
Lars Berger won the men’s race by 4 seconds over Kristen Skjeldal.
