Two relay gold’s and bronze in the 10-kilometer skate race at Worlds was great, but next year’s Olympic schedule is very different. Norwegian Tore Ruud Hofstad is 'in the think-tank' and undecided on how he should be training and what to focus on for the upcoming Olympic season.
, or if he should specialize in skating in order to do race well in the 50-kilometer skate race at the Olympics.

– That’s an interesting question which I still don’t have an answer to. I’m still evaluating this past season, and I haven’t decided what to do yet. But I have been thinking a lot about it, in which direction I should go. I did best in the short skate races this season. I have not done well in the pursuit/duathlon. I have struggled with this event after it was changed from 10 + 10 kilometers to 15 + 15-kilometers. — I have simply not been good enough in classic, says Tore Ruud Hofstad.

His problems in classic have made him use too much energy in the classic portion of the race, and he has not had anything to give after switching to skate skis.

– I have only done well in pure skate races that are not too long, says Hofstad

It’s a 50-kilometer mass-start in the Olympics next season

– It would be exciting to race the 50-kilometer. It would be great to be in the lead group until the end. I will now evaluate the season and talk with the coach regarding what to do. Mass-start and altitude suits me well, and I feel that I have good sprint skills if I can hang on until the end, says Hofstad whom has previously not done particularly well in 50-kilometer races.

– I’m still waiting to pop a good 50-k, says the 25-year old.

He is racing the Norwegian 50-k championship this weekend, but that’s in classic.

– I can safely say now that I won’t win, says Hofstad and laughs.

He believes it’s possible to train for both techniques.

– It’s possible to train equal amount for both techniques. I prioritized skating ahead of Oberstdorf Worlds, and that was successful. It’s therefore tempting to specialize in one technique again. Its medals that counts. I’ll rather capture medal in one technique that being fifth in both, says Ruud Hofstad.
