Ten athletes were interested in going after the old Fonnefjell hill-climb record of former national champion and national team coach Magnar Lundemo. But only Olympic and World Champion Frode Estil showed up for last Thursday’s record attempt. The old record was 58 minutes and 31 seconds and Estil ran solo and crushed that time.

<p>The plan was that ten athletes were going to start together, but everyone but the 2005 50-kilometer World Champion (and 2002 Olympic pursuit champion), Norwegian national team skier Frode Estil pulled out before the start.</p>
<p>– It was too bad that I ended up running by myself, but it workout out well, said a happy Estil after the race.</p>
<p>He ran the course in a new record time of 55 minutes even.</p>
<p>– The lower part in the bog area was very wet and tough, commented Estil.</p>
<p>Former ski kings, Oddvar Bra and Harald Gronningen had showed up to watch Estil record attempt<br />
– A great race, but it can be beaten since it was slow and wet in the bog area, said Bra after the race.</p>
<p>– Someone at the national team might have been able to match me. This is good 50-k training said Estil with a smile</p>
