Kris Freeman was 24 seconds ahead of Carl Swenson in a 15-kilometer skate time-trial at Soldier Hollow on Tuesday. Dave Chamberlain was third.
Dry roads, 40-45 degrees Fahrenheit and five laps on the Soldier Hollow , Utah rollerski course (plus the biathlon loop) at the 2002 Olympic stadium was on the program for the US Ski Team and several other skiers on Tuesday October 18.
Freeman skied a very fast first lap and put an early gap on everyone including second place finisher Carl Swenson. After that he skied four very consistent laps and gradually improved his lead.
Swenson opened a little more conservative and skied his two fastest laps on lap four and five. David Chamberlain skied a solid race and ended up third, 1 minute and 24 seconds behind Freeman.
Wendy Wagner was the fastest women (small field) in 13.10 in the two lap women’s race.
