In today's freestyle sprint in Nove Mesto, Sweden placed three skiers in the men's A-Final with Bjoern Lind finishing just 0.1 seconds ahead of teammate Peter Larsson. The young Norwegian Johan Kjoelstad, who had his first World Cup victory last year in this same race, took a distant (+22.2) third today after dealing with some roughness from Mikael Oestberg who finished fourth.
US Ski Team sprint specialist Andrew Newell was eliminated in his 6-person quarterfinal after an exceptionally promising third-fastest qualifying time earlier in the day. The highest final US result came from Torin Koos, who finished third in the same heat which also included World Sprint Champion Vassili Rotchev of Russia and Trond Iverson of Norway, among others. Koos was 1 second from advancing to the semis.
