Savialova and Alypov Russian Distance Champions (Babikov 4th)
Today and yesterday, Olga Savialova and Ivan Alypov secured their Russian National Titles for the 30 and 50 Kilometer Mass Start Freestyle Races respectively.
Savialova was able to maintain a two second lead over Julija Tchepalova on the Rybinsk trails by the end of the race. Three seconds behind in third place was Evgenia Medvedeva. Up to tenth place, there were only world cup competitors to be found, which shows how many talented women the Russian National Team has.
Among the men, Alypov finished 10 seconds ahead of second place skier Aleksandr Legkov. Third place finisher was Pavel Korostelev before Ivan Babikov in fourth place. Babikov's finish was extra impressive as he traveled from America before the race where he won three races at the U.S. National Championships held at Soldier Hollow. Babikov is attempting to make Russia's Olympic Team.
