Tough Field, Tough Course at Mt. Itasca SuperTour

University of Fairbanks racer Johanna Turunen hammered the steep climbs and fast flats at Mt Itasca, Minnesota faster than anyone else in today's SuperTour 10km Freestyle race. Conditions for the individual start race were hard and fast on the rolling flats at the bottom and top sections of the course, but no one was breaking any land-speed records on the section in between: a series of super-steep climbs twisting around through the woods leading from the base-lodge elevation to the top of the chairlift of the nearby downhill area. The steep S-turn sections on the way down from the high point of the course gave high-speed thrills to spectators and racers alike.
