Neither cross country skiers, biathletes, alpine skiers, ski jumpers or nordic combined skiers will participate at the opening show reports Aftenposten.

The Norwegian curling team will however participate with its ten athletes.

– We have to do what’s in the athlete’s best interest. Many have important competitions or workouts the day after say chief of sport Jarle Ambo.

Many of the athletes say that they don’t have time to participate due to the long travel to the ceremony site.

– It would have been nice to participate, but it takes for ever. If it had been a day earlier and not so far away, I might have participated, says Marit Bjorgen
