The US Ski team is currently in Seiser Alm, Italy preparing for the upcoming Davos World Cup races and the Turin Olympics. The sprinters did well, but the distance skiers struggled in the recent Oberstdorf World Cup races. We asked head coach Trond Nystad a few questions.
and because the skiing is great. The weather was perfect the first days with cold nights and sunny days. The last few days it has been snowing, which has been good for skiing, but bad for the tan. Several other teams are training here with us (Norway, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Japan, Czech Republic and a few others), so it is a pretty international experience to be out on the trails. We have for the most part just done easy training (2-3 hours of distance per day) + a few strength sessions per week. This week we will throw in a few interval sessions and get ready to race fast in Davos. Everyone has been healthy and been able to train well, so we should be ready to get some great results in Davos. We will also have a timetrial in Davos right after the race. The results from the race and the timetrial will determine who will start in the pursuit and in the classic race at Olympics.
