1992 Olympic champion Vegard Ulvang, Norway has been elected as the new leader of the FIS cross country committee.

Ulvang has been a member of the same committee since 1998.

Some quotes and comments from Norwegian newspaper VG http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=117848

– I’m starting this job humbled. The most important for me is to find good solutions and compromises. The cross country ski world doesn’t always see things the same way, my job is to pull everything together. I have to behave as a diplomat, says Ulvang.

More athletes are going to race everything

Ulvang will work closely with FIS race director, Jurg Capol. They are the architects of the new Tour de Ski.

– We are at the start of a calm period and we have agreed upon several race solutions. Now we have to fine-tune the program. The challenge is to stop the specializing toward racing only certain races. We are going to get more skiers to race more races and distances. We want, during Tour de Ski , to see that more racers will race all the events, says Ulvang.

Ulvang is also underlining that FIS is working toward even better TV productions.

– We have to team up with television. We have to be exciting and FIS need to punish bad organizers, says Ulvang.
