Petter Northug will skip the World Cup races in Kuusamo at the end of the month.

Petter Northug (Norway) is very excited ahead of the Norwegian opening races at Beitostolen this weekend. But the youngster has decided to not race the World Cup races in Kuusamo later this month.

– The plan is that I will skip the World Cup in Kuusamo, November 24. – 26. I would have liked to race there as well, but it’s often very cold there and therefore greater chance of getting sick. But it also good with a weekend off in order to get in some valuable training and to avoid too much traveling this early in the season, says Petter Northug to adressa.no.

If it was (only) up to Petter to decide, then he might have raced, but it has been decided to hold him back a little, following a summer and fall with lots of training.

– We are going to be careful with Petter. We have made a plan, and it’s going very well so far. Petter responded very well to the altitude camp in Val Senales, and benefited well from the recent competitions in Düsseldorf. He will now race the two upcoming weekends, and it might then be smart to skip the Kuusamo races and train at home instead. After that it will be back to altitude in central Europe and more World Cup races in December, says coach Morten Aa Djupvik.
