AHRLIN AND PEYROT WIN LA SGAMBEDA

Jerry Ahrlin of Sweden won ahead of Italians Marco Fiorentini and Biagio Di Santoin Sunday’s La Scambeda FIS marathon. Lara Peyrot of Italy posted her third win in Livigno ahead of Swedish Jenny Hansson and Italian Veronica Cavallar. 1.200 racers took part in this season’s first FIS Marathon Cup 2006-07.

Livigno (SO) ITALY Р17th december 2006 Sweden is big protagonist of the 17th edition of La Sgambeda di Livigno, with Jerry Ahrlin, 28 years old from Ostersund in Sweden, even though he prefers classic tecnique than skating. After the first of the two tours of the 20 km track, Ahrlin has planned his race strategy, made of continuous attempt of runaways in order to tire his avversari. From a group of thirty athletes at first, the race has seen seven elements in highlight, who have made a sprint team strategy between Jorgen Aukland and Oeystein Andersen, from Norway, towards Italians Biagio Di Santo, Tullio Grandelis and Marco Fiorentini. In the group also Roberto De Zolt and everybody present at La Sgambeda was expecting to see him at the entrance of the stadium, but Ahrlin wins over Marco Fiorentini and Biagio Di Santo. Right after the two Norwegians Aukland and Andersen. Some ski problems and the delay in the training for Fulvio Valbusa, who has preferred to stop at the short arrive of 22,5 km. The announced Olympic gold medal, Bjoern Lind, has't come at the start. Marco Cattanaeo has competed with the red bib as winner of last year's FIS Marathon Cup and has finished the race in ninth position, but the season has just started and there is still time to collect important points. In women's race after 2003 and 2004, it's again Lara Peyrot, who wins again this edition. At a distance of 3'17 from Sweden it's Jenny Hansson who gets the second place of the podium, really enthusiastic and satisfied with her skis, has also seen at the arrive waiting for her fianc̩ Jerry Ahrlin. Third place goes to Veronica Cavallar, who has lost in sprint with the Swedish girl. As announced Gabriella Paruzzi, who has entered the long distance national team, was at the start, but has decided to interrupt her race in Livigno after the first tour of about 20 km, she will start collecting points on 14th January in Cekia with 50 km Jizerska Padesatka.
