Last World Cup in Europe before the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo (JPN)

January 31st, 2007 – For the upcoming weekend, 03rd — 04th February, the World Class athletes in Cross-Country skiing will meet in Europe's highest city — Davos (SUI). At an altitude of 1560m, the town with over 12,500 inhabitants is situated about 150 km south-east of Zuerich in the canton of Grisons.

Davos – the hometown of Seraina Mischol – will be hosting the Cross-Country World Cup for the eighteenth time. For some athletes it will be the last chance to win a “ticket” for the FIS World Ski Championships in Sapporo 2007, which will be held from 22nd of February to 04th of March.
In Davos, the competition schedule includes individual start distance races in the free technique on Saturday and relay races on Sunday which is very important for the last qualification for Sapporo.
At least 23 nations will be at start on the already well-prepared “Fluela courses”. The field includes 97 men and 70 ladies, among them also the World Cup leader Virpi Kuitunen from Finland. Tobias Angerer (GER), the men's World Cup leader will miss the competitions in Davos to prepare for the World Championships.
