I hadn’t even seen the poster around before I went to Chad’s house a month ago. The poster I am talking about is for the 2007 Mora Vasaloppet. It makes sense to frame it, and hang it on your wall when you are front-and-center. What makes even more sense is that the race organizers recognized that Subaru Factory Team member Chad Giese deserved this type of celebration due to the fact that he hasn’t let...

What a weekend in Bavaria! The snow situation in Central Europe was looking bad, really bad. It was foggy, rainy and way to warm with temps not even close to freezing on days before the race. On Friday morning skiers checked the course and tested skis. Very soft and wet with a lot of dirt and don’t ask what else mixed in the snow. Due to weather conditions and lack of snow the race for...

‘Don’ of American x-c skiing keeps team at the top for 13 years Andrew Gerlach answers the phone sounding like an overworked executive and father with a slight cold, or is that the gravelly voice of The Don? 2006-07 marks the 13th season for the Subaru Nordic Team, the top pro Nordic team in the North America, which Gerlach founded, owns and operates from day to day out of his office in Bozeman, MT. He...

Sun Valley lived up to its name Saturday for the 32nd Boulder Mountain Tour. Temperatures did not reach predicted lows overnight and a strong sun and warm wind quickly turned the snow much warmer than most racers expected. The track was hard and perfect from start to finish and a strong tailwind contributed to blistering fast times over the 32km course. In an unusual turn of events for this race that drops 1100 feet in...

Antholz, Italy, February 7. Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) placed seventh in the Men’s 20K Individual competition here, giving him the second best ever US Biathlon result in the Biathlon World Championships. Burke now ranks second only to Josh Thompson, who won a Silver medal in the same event in the 1987 Biathlon World Championships in Lake Placid, New York. Ironically, Burke is a native of nearby Paul Smiths and trains there in the off-season....

Daniel Tynell and Elin Ek were the winners in the Konig Ludwig Lauf classic marathon on Sunday. Several Americans raced well in Saturday’s skate marathon. Sunday’s FIS classic marathon Daniel Tynell of Sweden won this weekend’s Konig Ludwig Lauf FIS marathon 0.2 seconds ahead of Stanislav Rezac (CZE). Jerry Ahrlin (SWE) was third 0.3 seconds out. Top American was Colin Quinn-Hurst in 76th place. Elin Ek of Sweden won the women’s race 4 seconds ahead...

From USSA Nordic Program Director Luke Bodensteiner: Due to the cold temperatures in Minneapolis over the weekend, the SuperTour Sprint competition in Uptown Minneapolis and the SuperTour portion of the City of Lakes Loppet was cancelled. This means that the showdown between Lars Flora and Eric Strabel for the overall SuperTour sprint title could not take place, and Lars Flora is the season's overall sprint winner. In the battle for the blue sprint jersey at...

A hardcore group of 800 skiers made their way to the start line for the 2007 City of Lakes Loppet. Blue sky and sunshine reflected upon a well prepared course, but frigid temperatures also made it to the party. 12, 3, 21, 36, and 3 were all numbers mentioned throughout the weekend. There was no need to specify if it was above or below zero, as temperatures never climbed above zero for the weekend. Saturday’s...
