Former Norwegian national team skier HÃ¥vard Bjerkeli (29) is one of the initiative takers for this summer’s Tour de Romsdal in Norway. The three day event will be a real challenge for the participants.
– I want to use the contacts that I have in cross country skiing to attract as many as possible to the Romsdal valley (Romsdalen) the weekend it takes place, says HÃ¥vard Bjerkeli.
The newâ€summer tour†consists of 3 competitions in three days.

This is Tour de Romsdal:

Hill climb (day 1): – We will run up Nesaksla (see picture). This is Norway’s steepest hillclimb with a 34% climb. The length is (only) roughly 2000 meter long, but the altitude difference is 688 meter. The start is downtown Ã…dalsnes and the finish is on Nesaksla.

Triathlon (day 2): – Untraditional, tough triathlon in the town of Midsund on day two. We’ll start with running up to a peak 500 meter above the start point and down again. Then its 23 kilometer of biking before we conclude with 200 meter swimming in the cold ocean, says Bjerkeli.

Bike race (day 3): – Roughly 50 kilometer bike race from ElnesvÃ¥gen toward Hustadvika, for those who knows the area. We’ll follow the so-called coastal trail, a great course, ensures Bjerkeli.

Great prizes

HÃ¥vard Bjerkeli is hoping that decent money prizes will lure attractive names to the tour.

– First prize for each competition is 10.000 kroner (roughly US $1400). The overall winner will also collect the same amount. This means that one athlete can possibly walk away with 40.000 kroner (roughly US $6000). This goes for both men and women, says Bjerkeli.

No big names have entered so far for Tour de Romsdal which takes place on July 14. — 16. The Tour is open to anyone, but there will be a separate elite class.
The Tour is organized as a joint venture by a number of local sports clubs.
