Bjorn Lind won summer ski sprint in China

The first ever summer ski competition in Asia took place on Saturday at the Chang Bai Shan Mountain. The sprint race was a success for Swedish skiers with Anna Dahlberg winning the women’s race and Björn Lind winning the men’s event.

The Chinese Chang Bai Shan Mountain s at 1 700 meters altitude on the border to North Korea. Nine Swedish skiers took part in Saturday’s first ever on-snow summer sprint race in China.

Anna Dahlberg dominated the women’s race and won the prolog and every heat including g the final. Björn Lind had tougher competition in the men’s race, but edged Fredrik Persson at the finishline.

Peter Larsson fell after 15 meters in the final and that spoiled his chances. The Chinese team is coached by Sweden’s Per-Erik Rönnestrand. The have been skiing at the Chang Bai Shan Mountain for the last couple weeks. Wang Songtao was the most impressive of the Chinese skiers by winning the prolog. He did not make it past the quarterfinal.

– It was very beneficial for us to get this type of competition, said Ronnestrand
