Paralympic Cross-Country Champion Steve Cook Retires

FasterSkierOctober 12, 2007 reports that Steve Cook, winner of 14 medals at major championship events retired after nearly a decade on the US Paralympic Ski Team.

“He’s been the backbone of this team since ’98,” said disabled cross-country head coach Jon Kreamelmeyer. “Along with Willie [Stewart, retired ’04] and Crenny [Mike Crenshaw, retired ’06], Cookie took the team to a different level — they set the tone for what was going to take place over the next 10 years. He’s certainly going to be missed.”

Cook won the overall World Cup in a 2005 season that also included two gold at the World Championships in Fort Kent, Maine.
