Powder King, an alpine ski resort 122 miles north of Prince George, prepared
the first cross-country ski trails in the north this Saturday. The Biathlon
BC High Performance Team started their year on snow on the Dachstein Glacier
in Austria early September.
The 35 cm on the base of the mountain was enough to groom a trail of 8 km,
with a 4 km trail leading up to mid base of the mountain were the team found
75 cm of snow.
“Its quite a workout” said Matthew Neumann after climbing the uphill twice,
but he really enjoyed the downhill. The rolling flat part took good focus
and skill to have a proper technique in Megan Tandy`s opinion.
Head Coach ilmar Heinicke is glad to train on snow these days because the
trials for the World Junior Championships are just around the corner in 4
weeks. He also said it is nice to find people like Jamie Bester, Powder King
manager, and his team from Powder King who really support the early season
snow use of the athletes. Jamie said he was hired by the new owner off the
resort and they would like to get ready for professional athletes in all
skiing disciplines.
