“Fantastic!†That’s what Per Wiik says about his Madshus skiers’ World Cup results as both Cross Country and Biathlon World Cup circuits take a short break for Christmas. Wiik, the Madshus International Race Manager, has reason to be pleased as an impressive array of Madshus athletes have climbed the podium in nearly every World Cup race this season.
Madshus skiers lead the Overall World Cup standings at the holiday break: Ole-Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR) leads in men’s biathlon; Axel Teichmann (GER) leads in men’s cross country. Martina Glagow (GER) leads in women’s biathlon on Madshus boots, followed by three more Madshus skiers standing 2-3-4 overall: Sandrine Bailly (FRA), Ekaterina Iourieva (RUS), and Kati Wilhelm (GER).

A new Madshus pinnacle came at Biathlon’s Hochfilzen World Cup series in mid-December: Madshus athletes swept the podium in both men’s and women’s races — twice — in both the Sprint and Pursuit events, December 6 and 8. “We had 8 out of the top 10 in both men and women on one day,†says Wiik.
Four Madshus racers climbed the podium together after Norway won the Biathlon 4×10 Relay on December 9th in a race that featured 10 of the 12 racers on the first three teams crossing the finish line on Madshus skis.

“We look stronger than ever, looking ahead,†says Wiik. “Many athletes have been with us a long time and are now breaking through. And we have a lot of younger athletes emerging at the same time.â€
Alex Teichmann has two World Cup Cross Country victories already this season on Madshus, points out Wiik. Ole-Einar Bjoerndalen has three wins in Biathlon, and Russians Dmitri Yaroshenko and Ivan Tcheresov have one win each, and stand 2-3 behind Bjoerndalen in the Overall World Cup standings. For the women, Sandrine Bailly has three wins in Biathlon, Ekaterina Iourieva has one victory, and along with Kati Wilhelm, three-time Olympic Champion, closely follow leader Martina Glagow of Germany in what looks to be an exciting next phase of the season-long fight for the World Cup.
